Flood Advisory until 8:30 am, thunderstorms, heavy showers in mountains later today

TheA flood advisory remains in effect until 8:30 am for south central Riverside County...

At 6:14 am, radar continued to indicate a stationary thunderstorm dropping moderate to heavy rain across the southern end of the Coachella Valley in an area bounded by the Salton Sea communities of Oasis, Mecca, and North Shore. Since midnight, continuous rain has resulted in over 3 inches of rainfall in this area.

At 506 am, California highway patrol reported over three feet of water was covering highway 111 between the communities of Mecca and North Shore.

The thunderstorm will likely gradually weaken through 830 am, however flood waters will be slow to drain off into the Salton Sea, so the area will likely remain flooded through at least mid-morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
