"Temprano Wildfire" in Murrieta 100% contained at 200 acres

The Temprano Wildfire was fully contained at 200 acres. The fire burned one travel trailer & one barn. Crews remain on scene monitoring the situation.

UPDATE: Sept. 24, 11 a.m.

MURRIETA - The Temprano Fire has burned approximately 200 acres and is currently 90 percent contained, according to the Murrieta Fire Department. The threat is greatly minimized to homes.

The fire burned one travel trailer, one barn and minor scorching damage to one home. Murrieta and the surrounding area will continue to see and smell smoke for the next week which is normal under the circumstances and they should not be concerned unless they see active flames. If active flames are seen, please call 911.

MURRIETA - A fast-moving fire has burned upwards of 150 acres of brush in Murrieta, and was 40 percent contained by lines of cleared brush, the city's fire chief said tonight.

''We'll reinforce containment lines tonight, said Murrieta Fire Chief Matt Shobert.

More than 150 firefighters from Murrieta, Cal Fire, Riverside County and other agencies were working the fire lines in the hilly area overnight, said Shobert. Six air units, helicopters and tankers, worked until sundown and would return in the morning.

The fire -- named the Temprano Fire -- was reported at 4:45 p.m. near the 39300 block of Via Temprano, according to Riverside County fire officials.

''There are some damaged structures, including a fifth-wheel travel trailer and a barn-type structure, but no residences,'' Shobert said.

He said the fire moved fast because the thick chaparral ''hasn't burned in decades.''

Earlier today, 100 to 200 homes were threatened and a voluntary evacuation center was opened at Vista Murrieta High School in the 28000 block of Clinton Keith Road, but Shobert said there were no takers.

''People evacuated on their own or sheltered in place,'' Shobert said.

The threat has subsided with reduced nighttime temperatures and wind and increased humidity, he said.

No injuries were reported.

UPDATE 9:15pm

MURRIETA - According to Murrieta Fire Department Chief Matt Shobert, the "Temprano Fire", as it is now being called, is 40% contained. The fire is being called the Temprano Wildfire because it was first reported on Via Temprano Road. There are just a few patches that are burning currently, and the total acreage burnt is still 130 to 160 acres. Currently there are about 130 firefighters still working the fire.

Homes in danger totaled about 200, according to Chief Matt Shobert. There are still no mandatory evacuations, but there has been some structure loss with no details available as of 9:15pm.

There have been conflicting reports of the fire being reported as early as 3 pm, or as late as 4:45 pm.

UPDATE: As of 8:30 pm, there are 130 to 160 acres that have been burned, according to Murrieta Fire Department Chief Matt Shobert. There is no percentage of containment as of yet and it is still under investigation.

UPDATE 8:15 pm - It is being reported that there are evacuations and structure damage. The evacuation center at Vista Murrieta High School located at 28251 Clinton Keith Road in Murrieta is now open. More information to follow.

MURRIETA - The Murrieta Fire Department is fighting the wildland fire that started in the Warm Springs Preserve in Murrieta at about 4:45 this afternoon with the aid of CAL FIRE/Riverside, Office of Emergency Services, and the Riverside County Fire Department. The wildland fire is currently 60 acres, and moving at a moderate to rapid rate of spread.

There are 27 engines, 1 helicopter, 179 fire fighters, 4 air tankers, 3 overhead personnel, 6 fire crews all battling the fire presently. There is still very little information available and it is under investigation.

As of 6:30 pm there were no mandatory evacuations. A voluntary evacuation center is being opened by the City of Murrieta at Vista Murrieta High School located at 28251 Clinton Keith Road, Murrieta, CA. 92563.

MURRIETA - The sizeable brush fire that started at about 4:45 pm this afternoon in the Warm Springs Preserve area of Murrieta has been moving and is now in the Los Alamos area near Hunter St. and the sports park. The fire has also been burning near the Grassy Knolls Mobile Home Park. There have been some road closures on Murrieta Hot Springs Rd. and Los Alamos. Check back for Story and pictures.
