SAGE - A search was under way today for suspects who allegedly tied up and robbed a man at his Sage home while posing as law enforcement officers.
The home invasion robbery occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday at a large rural property in the 38000 block of Thomas Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The homeowner, whose identity was not released, told deputies that he heard an unusual sound and went outside to investigate, at which point he was confronted by two men clad in camouflage.
''One of the subjects brandished a handgun at the victim and told him they were law enforcement officers,'' according to a sheriff's statement. ''The victim's hands were bound and his head and face covered before being placed in a vehicle and driven to the end of the property.''
While the homeowner was forcibly held in one vehicle, the bandits loaded another with various items taken out of the house, sheriff's officials said.
The homeowner was later released. He was not injured.
The vehicles used in the robbery were described as a silver sedan and a white full-size van.
Anyone with information was urged to call the sheriff's Hemet station at (951) 791-3400.
