Jan Metzger

Jan Metzger, long-time resident of Fallbrook, passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 10, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Jan was born on Oct. 21, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio. She married Don Metzger and moved to California in 1967, eventually settling in Fallbrook in 1973.

Jan was a woman of many talents. She owned Fallbrook Country Dachshunds and Village Yarn, where she made many lifelong friends. She was intelligent, artistic, witty and not afraid to speak her mind, which made her loved and respected by many.

Jan was preceded in death many years ago by her parents and brother. Jan also experienced the devastating loss of her son, Brad, in 1992. Surviving are her sister Patti (John); nieces Kari and Julie; and great-nieces Brittyn, Rylee and Reese. Special friends include Vicki, Jean, Bonnie, Sue, Joyla, Martin and family, Domingo, Antonio, and her wonderful caregiver, Maggie.

Per Jan’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service. An Open House to celebrate Jan’s life will be held at the Fallbrook Community Center on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.

For those wishing to honor Jan, please consider a donation to the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary, the North County Fire Department Volunteers, the Fallbrook Community Center, The Elizabeth Hospice or any charity of your choice.

Knit on, dear sister! I hope all your past dogs were waiting for you at the pearly gates! I love you most!
