FALLBROOK – Second graders at Live Oak Elementary kicked-off Fire Prevention Week, which began Oct. 8, with help from Sparky the Dog’s Hazard House – a classroom instructional prop that provides students with an opportunity for hands-on safety practice.
Using the Hazard House as a model, teacher Elva Hawkins taught her students about the hazards in their own homes and demonstrated ways to make things safer. Hawkins shared many fire safety tips with students, including: what to do if they found matches and how to create a family evacuation plan.
With the help of Sparky the Dog and Mrs. Hawkins, the students at Live Oak Elementary not only gained valuable safety skills, they had a learning experience they will remember for a long time.
