Bandit Abandons Bank Robbery, Flees Without Cash

MURRIETA - A man claiming to be armed with a pistol demanded money from a teller at a Murrieta bank today, but fled before receiving a single dime.

The attempted hold-up occurred around 1 p.m. at a Bank of America branch at 27690 Clinton Keith Road, according to Murrieta police.

Witnesses said a man walked into the bank and slipped a note to a teller saying he had a gun and wanted cash. But the suspect apparently got scared and bolted from the bank before collecting any money, said Sgt. Dave Baca.

He said the man ran toward the nearby Walgreens outlet and disappeared from sight.

Officers couldn't locate him during the ensuing search.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, about 20-25 years old and thin, wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and a blue Angels baseball cap.

Anyone with information was urged to call Murrieta police at (951) 461- 6365.
