Democratic emergency room doctor Raul Ruiz keeps lead over Rep. Mary Bono Mack

RANCHO MIRAGE - Democratic emergency room doctor Raul Ruiz kept his lead today over Rep. Mary Bono Mack in the race for the redrawn 36th Congressional District seat.

Ruiz had 52 percent of the votes over Bono Mack's 48 percent, according to updated totals from last Tuesday's election released today by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.

Ruiz had gradually been widening his lead as votes were counted -- he now has more than 7,800 votes more than Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs. Bono Mack conceded on Friday, signaling the end of her 14 years in public office.
