12 Warrior gridders earn all-league honors

Twelve members of Fallbrook High School’s football team received all-league recognition from the Avocado East League’s coaches.

The league’s first team included Sean Dowling and Austin Wolff. Fallbrook had six second-team players: Blake Bonaguro, Thevi Cao, Keegan LeBanz, Markus Lewis, Micah Marroquin, and Angel Perez. Honorable mention distinction was conferred upon Chet Curtis, Tyrone Dixon, Seth Fendt, and Garrett Maclean.

“I’m happy for these guys. They worked hard and deserving of the honor,” said Fallbrook head coach Joe Silvey.

All-league recognition was given to three of Fallbrook’s four starting defensive backs, three of the Warriors’ five starting offensive linemen, and two tight ends. Eleven of the all-league Warriors are seniors; Curtis is Fallbrook’s only junior selected for all-league accolades.

Dowling is an offensive tackle. “That’s a great honor for him,” Silvey said. “He’s just a very talented player and he has a bright future ahead of him.”

Dowling was a two-year starter for Fallbrook’s varsity. In 2011, he earned honorable mention Avocado East League recognition.

Wolff, who was named to the all-league team as a tight end and also played linebacker when the Warriors were on defense, was a three-year starter. “He’s been a big part of our program,” Silvey said of Wolff. “Excited for him and wish him well in the future.”

Wolff also earned Avocado East League first-team recognition for 2011. Last year Fallbrook’s nine all-league selections included five seniors. Perez was on last year’s Avocado East League second team while Maclean received honorable mention designation.

Bonaguro was Fallbrook’s center, Cao and LeBanz were cornerbacks, Lewis was the Warriors’ punter and placekicker, Marroquin played quarterback, and Perez was a safety. Curtis earned all-league honors as an offensive tackle and is also a defensive lineman, Dixon was selected for all-league recognition as a running back and also played linebacker, Maclean was recognized as a tight end, and Fendt played defensive end.
