JURUPA VALLEY - Two men, one who allegedly led sheriff's officials on a vehicle chase in a stolen vehicle and another who followed the pursuing patrol vehicles, are in custody today.
A sheriff's sergeant attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle around 10:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, near 37th Street and Crestmore Road in the Rubidoux section of Jurupa Valley, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Samuel Flores.
The driver, later identified as Israel Evans, 23, of Jurupa Valley, was being followed by a second person, later identified as Ryean Jones, 19, also of Jurupa Valley, in a separate vehicle, Flores said.
Evans refused to stop and as patrol vehicles pursued him, Jones continued to follow the behind the pursuit, he said.
Deputies pulled Jones over as Evans continued to flee, eventually heading into Riverside, Flores said.
"Evans abandoned the stolen vehicle near the 3800 block of Locust Avenue and fled on foot,'' he said, adding that he was apprehended a short time later, he said.
Evans, who was on felony probation, was found to have several outstanding felony arrest warrants, Flores said.
Investigators found several items reported stolen in Jurupa Valley and Riverside in both the stolen vehicle and the one driven by Jones, he said.
"The investigation also led deputies to the recovery of an additional stolen vehicle in the Jurupa Valley area,'' he said.
Evans and Jones were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
Jones was being held in lieu of 25,000 bail and Evans in lieu of $50,000. Both were booked on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, conspiracy to commit a felony, receiving stolen property and probation violations, according to sheriff's online jail records.
Evans was also suspected of possessing and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The case remains under investigation and anyone with information about the suspects or who believes they may have been victimized by them was urged to contact Flores at (951) 955-2600.
