The Power of Easter

I wonder what it was like to see Jesus’ empty tomb. I wonder how the disciples felt seeing Jesus alive three days after seeing him on that cross. It must have been an amazing experience to see the savior of the world standing before you alive and well.

What’s so interesting about the account is that the disciples and other followers of Jesus almost missed him. Their lack of faith and understanding almost left them desolate and without hope. They were thinking of the dead Jesus and not the living Savior. It took a little reminder from the angels to help them remember his words. They told them, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.” (Luke 24:5-7)

We also are in danger of missing the living Jesus. Our lack of faith and understanding puts us in position for unbelief. We often think of it as a nice story. But the Resurrection is not just some fable or folklore we hear during campfire stories. It is the message of life! It is the power over death! It is the victory over everything dark and wrong with this world! It is our hope! It is our destiny! It is our redemption!

The power of the Resurrection is the focal point in our life of faith. The fact that Jesus overcame the grave with a triumphant victory gives us confidence that we too can overcome our trials and temptations.

Because of the Resurrection we can enter into a full and loving relationship with Jesus Christ with complete certainty. Believing that Jesus was crucified, that he rose from the dead, that he rolled away the stone, that he appeared to his disciples and then appeared to hundreds more gives us confidence that he is the Christ.

I am sure of this one thing! That no matter where you are in your life. No matter what complication or struggle you are going through; no matter what hopeless situation you are in; there is victory through Jesus Christ! Because of his power over the grave, through him, we have power over every circumstance in our lives. Giving your life to Jesus is giving your life to the living God, to hope, to grace, to forgiveness, to life, to victory.

We must stop looking among the dead and look to the one true living Savior: the resurrected Christ - Jesus.
