Drew earns all-CIF second team honors

The panel of coaches and media members who selected the all-CIF softball teams placed Fallbrook High School shortstop Hailey Drew on the all-section second team.

“Happy for her that she got second team,” said Fallbrook co-coach Shannon Koran.

“It’s nice for her to be recognized for her accomplishments this year,” said Fallbrook co-coach Patti Drew. “She had a great year both offensively and defensively and she earned it.”

On offense Hailey Drew batted .439 with 36 hits, 32 runs scored, four doubles, three triples, six home runs, 17 runs batted in, 17 walks drawn, 15 stolen bases, a .535 on-base percentage, and a .780 slugging percentage. Her shortstop statistics included a .908 fielding percentage.

“Little bit disappointed that she didn’t make first team,” Koran said.

Drew, a junior, was selected to the all-CIF second team for the third consecutive year. In 2011 as a freshman she set school single-season records with 55 hits and a .597 batting average. Although opposing coaches and players made adjustments after that, her sophomore season in 2012 included a .402 average, a .496 on-base percentage, a .674 slugging percentage, 48 hits, 46 runs scored, 20 runs batted in, 12 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 18 walks drawn, and 19 stolen bases.

Drew also earned all-league honors for the third year in a row. She was on the Avocado East League first team in 2011 and 2012. This year the Warriors moved to the Avocado West League, whose coaches placed her on the first team.
