FALLBROOK – It was a weekend filled with smiles, hot dogs, blue ribbons and, of course, horses! The Annual Fun Day Horse Show was yet again, a fantastic way to end a wonderful year of therapy and growth at REINS Therapeutic Horsemanship Program in Fallbrook.
Each year, REINS puts on the Fun Day Horse Show to give their students a chance to show off their skills to family and friends. REINS provides therapy on horseback to children and adults with disabilities from all over Southern California. Students typically receive therapy once a week from the specially trained horses and in the course of a year, there is a lot to be proud of.
On Aug. 3 and 4 this year, siblings, grandparents, family and friends cheered their students in a typical sport activity. Some of the students may never play baseball, basketball, soccer or cheerlead, but they can ride a horse. The competition was fierce as some of the students were more concerned with the color of their ribbon rather than winning first, second, or third place.
Families enjoyed BBQ’d hot dogs and refreshments provided by REINS board members, Jim Betz and Bob Curtis. This year, REINS donors Sandra Cooper, Donna Kovner, and John Scudder came down to pass out the winning ribbons to the riders.
REINS is gearing up for a new year of therapy lessons this fall, which will start off with a bang. The organization’s 17th annual Country Hoedown is on Oct. 12. It’s an awesome ‘open house’ event that will knock people’s socks off. Go to http://www.reinsprogram.org for more information on REINS, their students, and events.
