PINYON - The Riverside County coroner today released the names of the front passengers in two cars that collided on Highway 74 in Pinyon, leaving both dead at the scene.
Jason Alexander, 25, of Palm Springs was the front passenger in one of the sedans, the coroner said.
Rosalinda Rossi, 58, of Palm Desert was the front passenger in the other sedan.
The collision occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 74 more than a mile from the Vista Point.
One person was flown by helicopter from the collision to a hospital with major injuries and another was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries, said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

PINYON - Two vehicles slammed into each other today on Highway 74 in Pinyon, killing two people at the scene and leaving two other occupants hurt, a spokeswoman said.
Firefighters received a call at 1:30 p.m. and went to the highway one mile half past Vista Point. One person was flown to a hospital with major injuries while the another was also sent to a hospital with moderate injuries, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson
The highway was shut down for an unknown length of time, Hendrickson said.
