Pumpkin contest at Fallbrook Fall Faire on Oct. 6

FALLBROOK – The first-ever local pumpkin growing contest will take place on Oct. 6 during the Fallbrook Fall Faire.

The categories for that contest are Best in Show from a Grower, Best in Show Home Grown, and Best in Show Youth. What contest could be better for a hometown event that features agriculture and home town crafts? Prizes for each category will be especially meaningful to growers.

Contestants should bring their pumpkin for judging to the information booth that will be located in the center of the intersection at Alvarado St. and Main Ave. Entrance will be possible from the East Alvarado side. Street intersection at Vine Street will be closed off for vehicle traffic early on Oct. 6, so it may be necessary to be prepared to wheel large-size pumpkins to the judging site by wagon.

Tips for entrants: protect a pumpkin’s color and skin from the sun. Intense sun exposure can fade the color which is part of the judging.
