Greak Oak Wolfpack submerges Fallbrook Warriors, 12-5

Fallbrook High School’s boys water polo team learned some lessons from the Warriors’ five matches in the season-opening Poway Invitational tournament Sept. 5-7, but execution techniques in the Warriors’ game Sept. 11 at Great Oak High School were hampered by the size of the Wolf Pack players.

Great Oak took a 12-5 victory at Fallbrook’s expense, giving the Warriors a 3-3 season record. “They had a couple of really big inside guys and they were a tough team and very, very physical,” said Fallbrook coach Bill Richardson.

“Our team did a good job of matching their intensity,” Richardson said. “We were a little bit on the smaller side so that was tough to match up, but we fought through the best we could.”

The five goals against the Wolf Pack were not a season low; Eastlake held the Warriors to three scores in the Poway Invitational.

“We definitely have a lot of opportunities to score. We just are not capitalizing on those opportunities,” Richardson said.

The loss against Great Oak also gave Richardson a chance to assess the team. “We’re seeing where our weaknesses are and working on those,” he said. “We’ll see what happens by the end of the season.”
