FALLBROOK – On Aug. 31 a special party was held for Mike Rohrick on his 80th birthday. The party was held in Mike and his son Mark’s hangar at Fallbrook Community Airpark with family and friends totaling more than 50 people.
There were two other birthdays celebrated, Mike’s granddaughter Lexie, 17, and son-in-law Rob Cutting, 51, so they had three different birthday cakes. The party was catered by Thai One On with the tastiest Thai food, and a wonderful film of Mike’s life. Mike’s wife Joy and daughter Shari also attended the party.
Mike flew his plane for all to see and then landed to have flown on his 80th birthday. The biggest surprise was a huge present from Mike’s son and daughter; they had a North American T-6 Texan, a single engine advanced trainer plane, flown in which Mike flew in 1955. The pilots of the Texan hoisted Mike up and into the tandem cockpit and off Mike flew with one of the pilots for half an hour. The attendees had never seen such a grin as when Mike landed.
