Sukara wins at Fairplex

Sukara became the first former San Luis Rey Downs horse to win a race at this year’s Fairplex Park meet.

The four-year-old filly trained by Ed Freeman won the third race Sept. 7, completing the six-furlong race in 1:11.97 and finishing 1 3/4 lengths ahead of second place Warrens China Doll.

“It was impressive,” Freeman said. “It was a pleasant surprise.”

During the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club season, Freeman ran his top horses at Del Mar while utilizing Northern California fair meets for less competitive horses. Sukara ran in a five-furlong race Aug. 21 at Ferndale and finished second, 4 3/4 len...
