60 Freeway to be Shut Down for Bridge Work This Weekend

MORENO VALLEY - The eastbound and westbound sides of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway will be closed on alternating nights, beginning Friday, as crews replace an overpass, according to Moreno Valley officials.

Crews will be removing falsework around the new Nason Street bridge Friday and Saturday nights, requiring motorists to detour off the 60, according to the Moreno Valley Department of Public Works.

The eastbound side of the 60 will be shut down at Nason beginning at 11:50 p.m. Friday and will remain closed until 6 a.m. Saturday. The westbound side of the 60 will be closed beginning at 11 p.m. Saturday and will reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

During the closures, motorists will be detoured off the freeway and onto city streets until they clear the construction zone, at which point they will be able to re-enter the 60.

The $17 million Nason Street Interchange Improvement Project, slated for completion in a year, entails replacing the two-lane overcrossing with a five- lane span, as well as erecting new on- and off-ramps, widening intersections and adding sidewalk space at the location.
