We currently have a $17 trillion debt. American voters should look at which party has contributed the most to that debt. The plain facts can be easily verified.
Reagan came into office with a $1 trillion debt level, and left with over $3 trillion. His contribution was $2 trillion. Bush I came in with $2 trillion and left with $4.5, adding $2.5 trillion. Clinton came in $4.5 and left with $5.8, adding $1.3 trillion. Bush II came in with $5.8 trillion in debt and left with $12.25 trillion – more than doubling the debt and leaving the country with two unfunded wars, Medicare Part D unfunded entitlement, and two unfunded tax cuts – costing the US public $6.45 trillion in additional debt plus the ongoing costs of his wars and fiscal irresponsibility. Obama came in with $12.25 trillion in debt which has, so far, grown to $17 trillion. A $4.75 trillion increase.
For every dollar spent servicing our national debt, here is how much should be allocated to each president who is responsible for debt increase on their watch:
All presidents prior to Reagan - 5.88 percent; Reagan - 11.76 percent; Bush I - 14.71 percent; Clinton - 7.65 percent; Bush II - 37.94 percent; and Obama (so far) - 27.94 percent.
In the final analysis, Democrats are responsible for 36 percent of the current federal debt and Republicans are responsible for 64 percent. Why those who are concerned about debt and deficits would ever vote for a Republican is inexplicable madness.
