Flea problems need to be addressed before the holidays

NORTH COUNTY – According to Dr. Laurainne Haenni, D.V.M., “When the weather starts to get cooler people may think they are through with fleas for the year but we often see pets with fleas during the holidays. They are a nuisance to pets and owners alike and now is the time to get rid of them.”

Fleas are not killed by the cold unless there is a hard freeze, but not in mild winter climates. Also, while fleas might die in the cold outdoors, the heat inside homes will keep them alive and reproducing all winter if one doesn’t take action to eliminate them.
