Civil War hero remembered in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK – On Saturday, October 26, Jerry Sayre, past department commander of the Son’s of Union Veterans of the Civil War, hosted an informal gathering at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Fallbrook to honor Sgt. William Pittenger, a Civil War hero and recipient of the Medal of Honor.

Some of the individuals in attendance included members of the Sgt. William Pittenger Camp 21 of San Diego, the William S. Rosecrans Camp 2 of Los Angeles, auxiliaries of those camps, and members of the public.

Following the remembrance gathering, attendees were taken on a tour of the Pittenger House at the Fallbrook Historical Society’s museum complex. Docent Patricia Showalter welcomed the guests and provided information on the house.
