FALLBROOK – Fallbrook residents have organized a golf tournament, dinner, and silent auction fundraiser for Sunday, Nov. 17 to help a young family – Kenneth and Dolli Smith and their four children – who are being affected by cancer.
The family’s situation was learned by some Fallbrook men and women that are co-workers of Kenneth’s at United Parcel Service (UPS).
Kenneth, 36, who has battled tumors in his lungs and one leg this year, lost his leg three weeks ago to a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor.
According to Dolli, “It’s rare and in most cases untreatable, but we are staying positive and hoping that the chemotherapy will prevent it from coming back soon. In some case studies, the chemo is ineffective. We’re hoping that is not the case with Kenny.” Dolli explained that a recent biopsy showed that there were no remaining cancer cells in his leg.
“He will do PET scans once a year and CT scans of his lungs every three months to look for new growths,” she added.
The golf tournament, dinner, and silent auction will all take place at Fallbrook Golf Club, 2757 Gird Road.
The tournament (18 holes) will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Contests will also be held for closest to the pin and longest drive. All levels of talent are welcome to the tournament.
A buffet dinner featuring a Hawaiian theme will take place at 4 p.m. with the silent auction offered during that time.
Donation to participate is $85/person (golf and dinner); dinner only is $40/person. Additional monetary donations or silent auction items would be much appreciated. One hundred percent of all proceeds will go to the Smith Family.
