50 years ago – JFK assassination altered Fallbrook's "Community Day" at Chargers game

In 1963, the San Diego Chargers implemented a “Community Days” salute which was to become part of the Chargers’ home game format each season beginning with the fall 1963 games. The original Community Day for Fallbrook was scheduled for Nov. 24, 1963.

It doesn’t take much research to determine that didn’t occur. The American Football League postponed its games following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. The alteration of Fallbrook’s Community Day at Balboa Stadium was thus likely the biggest impact to Fallbrook from the Kennedy assassination 50 years ago.
