The second annual Fallbrook Scarecrow Days and Fall Faire effort has been deemed a “tremendous success,” according to the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce and organizers.
“Many visitors were drawn to Fallbrook to see the ‘characters,’ plus Fallbrook locals once again enjoyed the fun,” said Kathie Richards of the Chamber. “There were over 125 scarecrows throughout town.”
Richards said the chamber office received “lots of feedback from merchants and they were very pleased and did well” during the Fall Faire.
“Lots of families and quite a few out-of-towners <attended the faire>,” she said. “We received a tremendous amount of calls, emails and comments regarding how much Fallbrook people loved it – it was ‘homey’ and calm, vintage Fallbrook.”
Richards said 70 non-profits did “an amazing job on their booths and also did well; one organization made $700.”
Winners of scarecrow awards (based on votes) were announced and honored on Nov. 12, as follows:
Best of Show
An Upscale Nail
Best of Show (Youth)
Quiet Country Day School
People’s Choice
Bello Lei Salon
People’s Choice (Youth)
William Frazier Elementary School
People’s Choice
‘Broomcrow Award’
Yogurt Palace
Richards explained that the Best of Show awards included evaluation in the categories of creativity, originality, details, and overall impression.
“A committee met and made the difficult choices,” she said. “People’s Choice awards were decided by the public and there was a tremendous participation in the voting process. With so many terrific choices, the decisions were difficult and a tremendous pat on the back goes out to all of those who created and displayed scarecrows.”
Richards also said Juanita Hayes of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) joined in the awards celebration as the utility company was “a major donor and supporter of Fallbrook Scarecrow Days, both this year and last.”
With the conclusion of the 2013 effort, Richards said participants and organizers are already looking to the future.
“It’s time to start dreaming of what to do next year for Fallbrook Scarecrow Days 2014,” she said.
