Girls rugby holding registration

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Girls Rugby Club currently is accepting registrations for the 2013-14 season. Practices begin Tuesday, Dec. 3, and the games begin Saturday, Dec. 21.

Practices are held after school Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Ingold Sports Park. Novice rugby players are taught the “laws of the game” and practice the essential skills through a consistent athletic program developed and led by coaches Craig and Marin Pinnell.

Returning rugby players hone their skills and athletic abilities as well as set the standard of excellence for the new players. The head coaches also have put together a team of assistant coaches who work with the girls on specific strategies and kicking abilities.

FGRC continues to grow; the first registration period brought in 10 new players who will join an already strong group of high school and junior high school female athletes! The club was organized in 2007-08, and is celebrating its seventh year as a club sport. The FGRC has won the girls high school nationals for the past three years as well as many other awards and honors, but don’t expect this group to rest on their laurels. Get ready for an exciting season.

Team and individual expenses are offset through a fundraising program which encourages the girls to take an active part in the financing of their travel expenses. All of the expenses of the FGRC are covered through fundraising projects and local sponsorships. Last year, “Support a Rugby Girl” began. Local businesses are paired with club members in an outreach effort.

Anyone interested in becoming a team player, in the team’s upcoming schedule, or in sponsorship, contact the coaches at [email protected].
