PERRIS - A 19-year-old man was arrested for felony DUI for allegedly crashing his car into a Perris restaurant, injuring three people including one transported to a hospital in serious condition, police said today.
The incident occurred at 3:19 p.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of North Perris Boulevard, said Perris police Sgt. Sergio Rodriguez.
''The driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into the building, striking employees and patrons inside,'' Rodriguez said. ''Three adults were transported to a local hospital for treatment with injuries ranging from serious to a complaint of pain.''
The driver, identified as Mario Balverde, 19, of Romoland, ''had just left a business and attempted to leave the parking lot'' before the crash, the sergeant said.
Balverde was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of felony DUI, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department jail inmate online records. His bail was set at $50,000 and he was due to appear at the Riverside Hall of Justice November 27.
Vehicle Plows into Perris Restaurant; One Left with Major Injuries, Two Others Hurt
PERRIS - One person suffered major injuries and two others were hurt today when a vehicle plowed into a busy restaurant in Perris, a fire spokeswoman said.
Firefighters received a call at 3:21 p.m. and went to the Mariscos Las Sirena restaurant at 2986 N. Perris Blvd. One diner was taken to a hospital for treatment of major injuries while two others suffered moderate to minor injuries and were also taken to a hospital, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
There was no immediate word on whether the motorist was arrested. The motorist escaped injury, Hendrickson said.
