FALLBROOK – At 12:50 a.m. today, deputies from the Sheriff's Fallbrook Substation were enjoying mid-shift beverages in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store at 631 S. Main Ave. when a customer exited the store and advised them the female preparing to drive away had just robbed the store. The customer directed the deputies to a white female adult, later identified as Julia Martell, 32, who was preparing to drive away in a Volvo station wagon.
Martell was ordered to park her vehicle and was subsequently contacted by the deputies. The investigation revealed that Martell had entered the store and demanded a pack of cigarettes, telling the clerk to give them to her because she didn't have any money but that she had a gun. The clerk complied and attempted to activate his robbery alarm. However, it failed.
As soon as Martell exited the store, the clerk asked another customer to tell the deputies outside what had occurred. Martell was given field sobriety tests. It was determined that she had been driving under the influence of alcohol. Martell admitted to driving while intoxicated and to robbing the store.
She also stated she never saw the three Sheriff's vehicles parked in front when she arrived. Martell was booked at VDF for Robbery and DUI.
Martell will face a judge on Tuesday, December 3rd at Vista Court.
