At the Fallbrook Golf Club things have been shaken and stirred; and what is happening is all good. Since owners Jack and Bonnie Lamberson took over, they have been working hard to make some positive changes. One of those changes is the name of the restaurant associated with the club. Formerly called the Hukilau, the restaurant is now named Jack’s Place. The name has a congenial feel to it – like you are a friend and are being invited over to this friend’s place for a meal.
The Lambersons are in the midst of tweaking the menu now. If there is something that is not on the menu any longer, but is a favorite of yours, you may still order it, explained Bonnie. “We are very accommodating,” she said. “Some of the items on the old menu are offered as specials. We are fine tuning the menu right now,” said Jack.
The “Turkey, Bacon & Avocado” sandwich is the most popular menu item, so, of course, it will remain on the menu. Served on wheat or squaw bread, the sandwich is packed with layer upon layer of fresh sliced turkey. Fresh avocados and crisp bacon complement the turkey. This sandwich is so large it is difficult to take a bite, but… press on... it’s worth it!
Sandwiches such as the traditional “Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato,” (BLT) can be made to order. “You can have extra B and no L – whatever you want,” Bonnie noted.
One exciting addition to the menu is lobster tails on Friday and Saturday nights – usually eight or nine ounces offered at a reasonable price. They have also “Upped the quality of our meats,” Bonnie explained.
Jack’s Place is trying new things for the entertainment, as well – a recent Jazz Night was well-received; and a new dance floor will be added come January.
“We want to give as nice as we can give,” said Bonnie. The couple has already made many wonderful improvements including interior painting, a new, safe railing and new garden landscaping.
Jon Keys, a golfer, said, “This is one of the nicest places in Fallbrook. The food is fabulous – I love the rib eye steak.”
Lupe Rodriquez, head of the food and beverage department, has been an employee of the establishment for 21 years. He mentioned that the nachos and the chicken wings are the most popular items on the appetizer menu. The delicious nachos include house-made tortilla chips, smothered with fresh beans, jalapeños, and then a choice of chicken, beef or pork. This mix is then topped with cheese, sour cream, homemade guacamole and fresh salsa.
“We don’t skimp on anything,” said Lupe, “We want to please the people.”
The Lambersons are spending a great deal of money and effort on things that people may never notice, but it is the high integrity of the couple that drives them to ensure that the Fallbrook Golf Club and Jack’s Place not only look attractive, but are safe for their patrons.
“Jack has the old-style work ethic, we both do,” said Bonnie. “We think, ‘If I was a customer here, what would I want?’” she added.
Look for the New Year’s Eve dinner and masquerade party, with a cover charge for those who just want to dance. Dinner is a three-course meal with a choice of lobster or Angus filet mignon for the main course. (Reservations are recommended.)
