Edward Charles Rutherfurd

Edward Charles Rutherfurd passed away December 20, 2013. Born November 6, 1928 in San Bernardino, Calif. to Arthur and Lillian Leinhard Rutherfurd, Ed was a lover of the outdoors. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. His love of art and coin collecting influenced his children and grandchildren.

As a young man, Ed worked each summer at Yosemite National Park. His love of nature and being outdoors spurred motor home adventures and family travel with his children. After serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army (1950-1953, the Korean War years), Ed attended San Bernardino Valley College then went on to study social sciences at the University of Redlands where he received a bachelor of arts degree. Ed went on to receive a masters of arts degree from Cal State Long Beach in social science as well as a teaching credential. He taught from 1962-1997, a total of 35 years teaching.

Ed and his wife Lorraine began their Shaklee business in 1971 which took them all over the world to Shaklee Conventions which was a highlight to him as he loved to travel. This 42-year relationship with health and wellness epitomized Ed’s philosophy of taking care of yourself and the ones you love.

While at the University of Redlands, he met and married his sweetheart, Lorraine Edwina Bowman. They married on August 21, 1954 and had been married 59 years. They had nine children (Dale, Edward, Deborah, John, Carrie, Duane, Suzanne, Jeffrey and Catherine), 18 grandchildren (Edward, Parker, Jason, Veronica, Jonathan, Andrew, Stephanie, Lucia, Eileen, Victoria, Cameron, Catherine, Brandon, Amy, Mark, Jessica, Emily and Dallin) and four great-grandchildren (Charles, Milo, Alexander and Samantha).

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George and his sons, Dale and Duane.
