The administration of Fallbrook Union High School District mailed out a letter Dec. 31 advising parents/guardians that a student had contracted a case of pertussis (whooping cough).
“Your child may have been exposed to this highly contagious disease that causes severe coughing,” FUHSD superintendent Dr. Dale Mitchell wrote. “Because no vaccine is 100 percent protective, even immunized persons can become ill with pertussis, but the symptoms are usually milder.”
