AGUANGA - A woman was killed today in a rollover crash in Aguanga, about 10 miles east of Temecula.
Norma Becerra, 28, of Aguanga was behind the wheel of a 2002 Ford Escape compact SUV which overturned on Wilson Valley Road around 9:20 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Becerra was headed west and had just passed Thomas Road, going about 55 mph, when she allowed the SUV to drift off the road and travel up an embankment.
''The vehicle went airborne, flipped over, collided back onto the roadway, where it rolled back onto its wheels,'' said CHP Officer Nathan Baer. ''The driver was not properly restrained, and she was ejected from the vehicle, landing on the south shoulder.''
The SUV came to rest halfway in the eastbound lane, with the back end of the Ford on the shoulder, Baer said.
Becerra was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics 40 minutes later, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
''This serves as a reminder for motorists to wear their seatbelt every trip, every time,'' Baer said.
