Seven Warriors earn field hockey all-league honors

Seven members of Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team were given all-league status by the Avocado League coaches.

The league’s first team included Maddie Ashbrook and Hannah Snider. Tatiana Arias and Sarah Scrape received second-team recognition. Taryn Sehnert, Heather Snider, and Emily Strickfaden were honorable mention selections.

“We had less because we didn’t place as high,” Waite said.

The Warriors placed fourth in the final Avocado League standings with a 4-6 record. The team’s overall record of 14-12 also includes a first-round CIF playoff win and a quarterfinal playoff defeat. In both 2011 and 2012, the Warriors posted 8-2 league records, shared the Avocado League championship, and placed all 11 starters on the all-league teams including three on the first team.

None of the 2011 starters were sophomores. The three current Fallbrook seniors who earned all-league honors were also the only Warrior players who earned Avocado League recognition both in 2012 and 2013. Ashbrook was on the 2012 second team while Hannah Snider and Strickfaden received honorable mention distinction.

Ashbrook, who played midfield for the Warriors, had 15 goals and nine assists during her senior season. “She’s the heart and drive of the team,” Waite said.

“Very competitive,” Waite said of Ashbrook. “Just a quality player who is really ready to be in college and play there.”

Hannah Snider scored two goals during the season and contributed six assists. “Such a quality defense player. She saved us on so many goals,” Waite said. “Just a great player that leads by example.”

Depending on the Warriors’ formation, Snider was either a low midfielder or a high defender. “She’s very team-oriented,” Waite said.

Arias, a sophomore midfielder, had 15 goals and three assists. Scrape is a defender whose offensive statistics during her junior year included three assists.

Heather Snider, a junior who played forward, scored seven goals during the 2013 season. Strickfaden was one of Fallbrook’s midfielders and ended her senior season with six goals and an assist. Sehnert, a sophomore who split goalkeeping duties with Jenny Smidt, faced 130 shots and saved 113 of those.
