Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team continued the tradition of having more than one Most Valuable Player.
The Warriors’ Dec. 9 post-season banquet at the Zion Lutheran Church meeting hall included the designation of Most Valuable Player awards for seniors Hannah Snider and Maddie Ashbrook.
“There’s not one MVP,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite. “Not one person makes a team, that’s for sure.”
Ashbrook, who was Fallbrook High School’s only all-CIF player for 2013, missed the banquet due to that night’s all-CIF recognition ceremony at the San Diego Hall of Champions. Her mother, Anny, accepted the award on Ashbrook’s behalf. During the season Ashbrook scored 15 goals while contributing nine assists. Ashbrook was one of Fallbrook’s midfielders.
Snider played either midfield or defender, depending on the Warriors’ formation. She had two goals and six assists during 2013.
The Most Inspirational award was also taken home by more than one player: Snider and Emily Strickfaden were the two Warriors recognized. Sophomore midfielder Madeline Gillchrist received the Most Improved award. Anny Ashbrook was given the Team Mom award while Doug Sehnert was honored with the Team Dad recognition.
The banquet included presentation of junior varsity awards. Alyssa Church was the JV’s Most Valuable Player; April Paulson received junior varsity Most Improved designation; and Grace Schmutz was the junior varsity’s Most Inspirational recipient.
Anny Ashbrook and Sehnert compiled a season highlight video which was shown at the banquet. Ashbrook and Suzanne Zinniger put together pictures for display. “It was very nicely done,” Waite said.
The banquet also included a catered dinner from La Caseta.
