Man shot in hotel room at Pechanga Casino in Temecula

TEMECULA - A man was fatally shot in a hotel room during an outburst of domestic violence at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, and a woman was somehow injured, deputies said today.

Sheriff's dispatchers received a 911 call at 11 p.m. Friday about a man with a number of undisclosed gunshot wounds found in the lobby. The victim who was described as a man in his 50s was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital where he later died of his injuries, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Raymond Huskey said.

The man's name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Casino spokeswoman Ciara Green said the shooting happened in a hotel room. A woman believed to have some connection with the dying man was also found in the hotel room.

She had non-life threatening injuries, but details and her relationship with the victim was not specified. All the ''involved parties'' are known to sheriff's detectives, Huskey said today, but it was not disclosed whether anyone was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Earlier, sheriff's Deputy Armando Munoz said the homicide stemmed from domestic violence.

Green couldn't recall when was the last time something this severe ever happened at the casino, adding that it was ''very unfortunate.''

The casino continued its business Friday night while sheriff's detectives conducted their investigation in the lobby area and hotel room following the shooting, Green said.

In a written statement, Green later said the casino and its staff are ''saddened by this domestic incident that occurred in a hotel room.''

''Our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals involved in this unfortunate, isolated incident,'' she said.
