PALA – Johnny Mathis fans will enjoy all his traditional hits when one of America’s most versatile singing legends performs with an orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 28, in the events center at Pala Casino Spa & Resort.
Mathis’ special guest will be comedian and country singer Gary Mule Deer, who will open the show.
While Mathis is most described as a “romantic” singer, his 50-plus years discography includes jazz, traditional pop, Brazilian music, Spanish music, soul, rhythm and blues, soft rock, Broadway theater, Tin Pan Alley standards, blues, country, and disco.
In 1958, he released Johnny’s Greatest Hits, the first Greatest Hits album in the history of the music industry. It began a tradition that has been copied by every record company. Mathis has released 200 singles, charted 71 hits around the world and has sold over 350 million records. He is the third biggest-selling record artist of the 20th century, only after Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
During a career spanning four decades, Mule Deer has performed on every major concert stage in the country and made over 350 major television appearances including The Tonight Show and David Letterman. He has been touring for over 15 years with Mathis as a special guest in concert.
