Firefighters worked to extinguish a fire that blackened about an acre of brush today in Oceanside.
About 20 firefighters were dispatched about 11:45 a.m. to the vicinity of Mission Avenue and Airport Road, North County fire officials said.
The fire was "making a run'' behind nearby homes on Carolyn Circle, but no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered, according to fire officials.
The fire was initially reported as about a quarter-acre spreading at a moderate rate. It grew to about an acre before crews could establish a fire line, fire officials said.
