National Weather Service issues wind advisory for Riverside, San Diego counties

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the deserts and mountains of San Diego County as well as the mountains of Riverside County among other areas; the advisory is expected to remain in effect until 3 p.m. Wednesday.

A low pressure system moving inland from the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies is expected to bring stronger onshore flow to Southern California, according to the NWS.

The weather service said mountain ridge tops, through passes and canyons, mountain slopes and adjacent desert areas are the areas that will be most affected by the winds.

Those winds are expected to blow between 25 to 35 miles per hour. Localized gusts could blow between 50-55 miles per hour at times.

Drivers were cautioned to drive carefully, especially if they have high profile vehicles. Areas of blowing sand and dirt could reduce visibility greatly.
