Hiker dies in Idyllwild

A hiker was killed today during a fall in the Tahquitz Peak area of Idyllwild. Firefighters were dispatched to the area at 11:07 a.m. where the person was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if the hiker was with a group or alone.

All identification is being withheld at this time Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

Idyllwild is flanked by two large rocks, Tahquitz Peak (with nearby Lily Rock) and Suicide Rock, which are famous in Southern California rock climbing circles...
