Gierlich-Mitchell given FPUD contract to replace recycled water pump

Gierlich-Mitchell, Inc., was the successful bidder to provide a replacement recycled water pump to the Fallbrook Public Utility District.

The FPUD board voted 4-1 July 28, with Archie McPhee opposed, to award a $49,896 contract to the Cypress company for an American Marsh vertical lineshaft pump and a 100 horsepower motor.

FPUD’s 1991 chlorine tank improvements included the installation of three recycled water pumps. During periods of high demand, all three pumps can be used to meet demands. The pumps had been rebuilt in the recent past to maintain reliable operation, but recently a pump failed and its condition does not make rebuilding economically feasible.

“It was scheduled for replacement,” said FPUD general manager Brian Brady.

FPUD issued a request for proposals to replace the pump and received four bids. Gierlich-Mitchell, Inc., had the lowest bid, which in addition to the price included a commitment to delivering the pump 16 to 18 weeks after receipt of the order.
