FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1924 has two essay programs which encourage student participation and they are now taking entries.
Voice of Democracy (VOD) is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a local school. This year’s theme is “Why Veterans are Important to our Nation’s History and Future.” VOD awards begin at the local level with first place at $500, second place at $300, and third place at $200.
Patriot’s Pen is open to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and this year’s theme is “Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans.” Patriot’s Pen awards are $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third.
The deadline for both essay contests is Oct. 31 at midnight with entries to be submitted to Post 1924 at 1175 Old Stage Road, Fallbrook, 92028. Prizes are then offered at district, state, and national levels. For entry forms, rules, and additional information go to http://www.vfw.org.
