Up to 50 residents of an Oceanside apartment complex were in need of temporary housing today following a two-alarm fire that destroyed one unit and damaged several others.
No one was hurt in the fire at the Oceana Apartment Homes complex, 180 Canyon Drive, which apparently broke out in an upstairs unit's kitchen shortly after 2 p.m. Friday. It spread to adjacent dwellings through common attic space, Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Bill Kogerman said.
Police and fire officials evacuated the burning building and surrounding ones, and rescued several pets in the process, Kogerman said....
