Warmer, drier weather expected as rainstorms dissipate over SD County

Scattered light rain fell across San Diego County overnight from the season's first winter storm, but clouds were clearing and warmer temperatures by mid-week, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Some areas got "as little as .01 of an inch'' but .22 inch was measured at Mission Beach and .38 inches fell on Volcan Mountain near Julian,' said NWS forecaster Stephen Harrison.

As for today, there were "a couple of isolated showers this morning south of Point Loma moving southeast. The rain should end and it will be a pretty nice day.''

Harrison said daytime temperatures today will be in the upper 60s to 70s along the coast and in the inland valleys, with nighttime temperatures dipping into the low- to mid-50s.

"Higher pressure will build during the week and we will experience a pretty good warming trend with no rainfall expected,'' Harrison said.

Cal Fire PIO Capt. Kendal Bortisser said the storm passing through barely put a dent in the county's rainfall deficit and ongoing drought. "We're going to be in the peak fire season until Dec. 31,'' she warned.
