One killed in Route 78 crash in San Marcos

One person was fatally injured in a crash on state Route 78 in San Marcos today.

A vehicle struck a tow truck that was stopped along the eastbound lanes west of Nordahl Road shortly after 7 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

One lane was closed and a SigAlert was issued, but it was lifted shortly before 11 a.m., CHP officials said.

The investigation continued, and it was not immediately disclosed if the person killed was in the tow truck or near it....
