FALLBROOK – Personnel from Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Detachment Fallbrook (also known as the Fallbrook Naval Weapons Station) will be taking part in a large Navy security exercise on Thursday, Feb. 5.
The exercise is part of a series of drills leading up to a Navy-wide annual event known as Exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2015, which will take place the following week from Feb. 9 to 13. Exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield will be conducted on naval bases throughout the continental United States, including at the Navy’s Fallbrook installation.
Measures will be taken to avoid disruptions to normal station operations, but there may be times when the exercises on Feb. 5 and Feb. 9 to 13 cause increased traffic around bases or delays in base access. The installation’s Ammunition Road gate may be impacted, and area residents may also see increased security activity. The station’s “Giant Voice” mass notification loudspeaker system may also be used.
The events are not in response to any specific threat but are regularly scheduled exercises, developed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy security personnel to respond to threats to installations and units.
