Pair of brush fires extinguished in Northern Oceanside

OCEANSIDE - Firefighters extinguished a pair of brush fires that blackened about three-quarters of an acre in a canyon today near homes in Northern Oceanside.

The fires were reported burning about 500 feet apart in the Lawrence Canyon off Loretta Street near state Route 76 shortly before 12:30 p.m., according to Oceanside Battalion Chief Felipe Rodriguez.
