Loren Franklyn Benedict Rugg

Loren Franklyn Benedict Rugg, born July 10, 1922, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 8, 2015 with his family by his side. Loren was part of the “greatest generation” and served his country in the Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS Schuylkill, a fleet oiler, assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He served his community as a L.A. County Sheriff for 26 years, and retired to begin another career with his wife Barbara, as an avocado rancher in Fallbrook. Loren was passionate about his grove, and enjoyed the beautiful vista from his patio. He was hard-working and fun-loving.

Loren and Barbara were married for 47 years and between them had eight children, 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In their retirement, Loren and Barbara loved to travel the world and they enjoyed the many friends they made in Fallbrook.

Loren was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Fallbrook and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Loren enjoyed square dancing, trumpet playing, sailing his boat, and cruising; and he loved holidays and get-togethers with the family.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Fallbrook, Friday March 20 at 10:30 a.m. with internment immediately following at Mission San Louis Rey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, Fallbrook.
