SAN DIEGO - One U.S. Marine was killed on Sunday, May 11 and 21 others were injured when a tilt-rotor aircraft based at Camp Pendleton made a hard landing at a training base in Hawaii.
The MV-22 Osprey from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit made the hard landing about 11:40 a.m. (2:40 p.m. PDT) at Marine Corps Training Area Bellows while conducting training, Capt. Brian Block of the USS Essex said.
"The Marines were conducting sustainment training at the time," Block said in a press release on the USMC's website.
The unit departed San Diego on May 10 for a seven-month deployment, he said.
