BUSD to utilize myON for pilot summer reading program

The Bonsall Unified School District will be utilizing the myON digital library as a pilot program for a summer reading initiative.

A 4-0 BUSD board vote April 22, with Erin English absent, authorized a memorandum of understanding between the school district and myON.

"It's a digital format that kids can get on to," said BUSD superintendent Justin Cunningham. "This is an online program that has thousands and thousands of selections for the kids to go with at their Lexile levels."

The Bonsall district utilizes a Lexile comprehension metric. myON has an interactive digital library of more than 8,000 books oriented for pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade levels. The interactive program allows students to read and also to engage with digital texts.

"The good part is that it can all be done online," Cunningham said.

The pilot program is free; the approximate cost of on-site professional development is $2,000.
