Two dozen dead birds test positive for West Nile virus in May in San Diego region

SAN DIEGO - County health officials today, June 3, said two dozen dead birds tested positive for West Nile virus last month in the San Diego region, but no humans have been sickened by the disease.

Five birds with WNV were discovered before the start of May, according to the county Department of Environmental Health.

The total of 29 for the year is the highest in the state. The county didn't find 29 WNV-positive birds last year until late October.
