Marine Corps sergeant convicted of killing Iraq citizen will not serve additional prison time; to be dishonorably discharged

CAMP PENDLETON - A U.S. Marine Corps sergeant convicted of killing an unarmed civilian in Iraq nine years ago will not serve any additional prison time, a military jury concluded June 18, but he will be given a dishonorable discharge.

Sgt. Lawrence Hutchins III of Plymouth, Massachusetts, was convicted June 17 for the killing, as well as conspiracy and larceny, but acquitted of preparing a false report about the killing.

Hutchins had been convicted of unpremeditated murder in 2007 and sentenced to 15 years behind bars but that was later reduced to an 11-year sentence.
